Explanation

Panel (f) packs many more points into the same width. The extra detail brings back the short swings that an annual figure smooths over, and it shows how much a graph can compress: a reader takes in at a glance what would be an unreadable column of numbers. The path here is filled in between the annual figures, so it shows the shape of a dense series rather than reporting month-by-month values.

Panel (g) changes the starting year instead. Beginning in 1975 removes the low unemployment of the 1960s, so the later peaks no longer have anything modest to be compared against, and the whole series looks higher. The slider moves that starting year, and the panel reports the lowest rate still on show.
