The Impact of Education on Earnings and Unemployment Rates, 2012

For each level of education the upper bar is median weekly earnings in 2012 and the lower bar is the unemployment rate. Earnings rise with every step up in education, from $471 a week for those without a high school diploma to $1,735 for a professional degree, while unemployment falls from 12.4% to 2.1%.

The national medians toggle adds the figures for the whole labor force that year, $815 a week and 6.8% unemployment, so you can see which groups sat above and below them. The two bars use different scales, so compare bars of the same colour across rows, not the two bars in a row.
